Wellbeing at The Patch

At The Patch Primary School, wellbeing is not an add-on — it is the foundation on which learning is built. We know that without strong wellbeing, academic success becomes significantly more difficult, so we prioritise the emotional, social and physical needs of our students as a core part of our practice. Our whole-school approach weaves together, our values of Kindness, Courage and Connection, the Berry Street Education Model and SWPBS (School Wide Positive Behaviours to create a calm, predictable and emotionally safe environment for every learner.

We use trauma-informed and neuroaffirming practices that recognise the diverse ways children learn, process and engage. This includes making reasonable adjustments to daily routines, transitions and classroom learning — such as visual schedules, sensory breaks, quiet entry options, scaffolded tasks and flexible seating — so all students, including our neurodivergent learners, can participate with confidence and success.

Every child has a Self-Care Plan, this is a plan that identifies strategies for individual students to ‘return to learn’ if they are feeling disengaged, dysregulated or need a break from learning or the classroom. When additional support is needed, we work in partnership with families to develop Positive Behaviour Plans/Safety Plans. These outline personalised strategies for regulation, help-seeking and wellbeing, ensuring students are supported consistently across the school day. Our staff are also open and proactive in working alongside allied health professionals and external services, strengthening the circle of support around each child.

Our Principal, Jim and Assistant Principal, Alesha are highly accessible. Jim and Alesha maintain an open-door policy not only for students who need a check-in, quiet space or reset, but also for parents and caregivers seeking support, guidance or a conversation about their child’s wellbeing. We value these partnerships deeply, knowing that strong, trusting relationships between home and school create the strongest foundation for growth.

Together, we are committed to fostering a community where every child feels safe, understood and empowered to thrive — so they are ready to learn, grow, achieve their best and most importantly be happy!
